Things to do in Boston.. While there are some good suggestions here, personally I would not be venturing so far out of Boston to find things to do - there is, in my mind, no need to venture to Dedham or Carver to find things for a 1. Edaville Railroad , in my mind, will not at all interest a 1. Thomas the Train visits for three days, etc - it is nothing like it was when 3. THomas and at the holidays, I am trying to figure out what your 1. Boston. If I had to choose a plantation, I would choose Sturbridge, but Plimoth is nice also, again - either you need to figure an hour trip - are you driving in from some direction? First of all, visit the tourist center on the corner of the Boston Common - a great center with lots of wonderful assistants inside to give you detailed info and ideas and plenty of brochures - and maps/audio for self touring freedom trail - The freedom trial: get acquinted on line before you go - if you do it on your own, you can stop whenever you like - spend longer on some things, touch lightly on others - you will pass lots of shops, cafes, restaurants, Faneuil Hall, and can make stops along the way so it isn't you dragging your daughter through a ! I would skip the Children's Museum, most 1. Science Museum and one of the cool movies at the Omni - My favorite museum is the Isabella Stewart Gardner - however, I find most kids , aside from the courtyard, do not like is as much as the MFA - it is in a house, it has a fabulous history, but it is a tad dark, and many things require lifting a cloth to see what is in the case or trying to read or decipher - the MFA has more 1. While the cafe at the ISG is also lovely, especially in better weather - the MFA has more dining options that again, only in my experience, my teen relatives feel more 'special'The Boston Public Library is worth a walk through - and has a nice cafe - and if you to to MFA, see the Sargent murals also in the BPL and get that 'connection' for her - Give her lots of fun at night: Shear Madness is a great rec, fun theater, everyone has always enjoyed that - and of course, the kids usually love Blue Man Group - There is also a huge movie cinema- plex across from Boston Common, and most kids like a good movie at night - or the dinner/bowling at the places mentioned also The Pru Skywalk is a definite - save it for a sunny day or clear night - I usually like this near the end, so they can point out - oh yea, we were over there in the NOrth End and oh yea, we were over there by the MFA, etc - and there is a history bit there that is not overwhelming - A day in Harvard Sq - good for both of you - and a few great museums there - Nat'l History, etc. If she is into outdoor activities, (again, March can be verrrry cold here ) - the ice skating if open is cool, but as far as kayaking or hiking, there are options closer than NH if that is of interest - I'll get that other info about shops when I get home later.
